Why this site exists
Public Transport Guide was built out of one recurring frustration: arriving in a new city, standing in front of a ticket machine, and having absolutely no idea what to buy. Not just which ticket — but which zone, which card, whether contactless works, how much the airport surcharge is, and whether the tourist pass is actually worth it.
Most travel guides answer none of these questions. They tell you where to go, not how to get there. This site does the opposite. Every guide here is built around the practical questions that real travellers ask at the ticket barrier.
Who writes these guides
I am a Greece-based independent travel researcher who has personally used the transport systems covered on this site. I built Public Transport Guide as a resource I wished had existed the first time I stepped onto an unfamiliar metro and had to figure out the ticketing system from scratch.
I do not write about cities I have not researched properly. Every guide is built from direct experience with the system, cross-referenced against official transport authority sources, and updated when prices or rules change. Each page carries a Last Verified date so you always know how current the information is.
What the guides cover
Each city guide answers the same core questions: which ticket or card to use, how much it costs, how to get from the airport to the centre, what the tourist passes actually include, and what traps to avoid. We currently cover 13 cities worldwide:
How we verify information
Official sources first
Ticket prices and rules are checked against official transport authority websites — TMB, TfL, GVB, OASA, and others.
Regular updates
Prices change, cards get renamed, and systems evolve. Every guide shows a Last Verified date and is reviewed when changes occur.
Practical focus
We cover what you actually need at the machine — not theoretical overviews. If a tip does not help you buy the right ticket, it does not make the cut.
No paid placements
Transport recommendations are never influenced by sponsorship. The guides recommend what makes sense for the traveller, not what pays a commission.
The YouTube channel
Every city guide has a companion video on the Public Transport Guide YouTube channel. The videos walk through the key things to know about each city’s transport system — useful if you prefer to watch rather than read, or want a quick overview before diving into the full guide.
